Lena prides herself on assembling the right team and concept for each client, focusing on commercial clients in the restaurant, health care and commercial real estate industries. Lena has led the team to design a number of state-of-the-art specialty veterinary hospitals, multiple restaurants, the nation’s first large format, ultra-high-fidelity salon and spa, several commercial real estate spaces, as well as custom high-end residential projects. Her work has received numerous awards, including the NAIOP 2008 Award of Excellence for Best Interiors in a Mid-rise Building for The Cleaning Authority’s 75,000 sq. ft. headquarters’ based in Columbia, Maryland and a Honorable Mention Award for Best Hospital Design from Veterinary Economics, with the completion of a 16,000 sq. ft. Orthopedic Veterinary Hospital in 2009.
Prior to moving to the US, Lena founded Munther Design in Oslo, Norway in 1991 where she worked with international brands, including: Levi Strauss, McCann-Erickson and the Norwegian Military Services. For Levi Strauss, she developed the concept for both their corporate headquarters, as well as their Levi’s Store, which was then implemented in retail locations in Sweden, Norway and Finland.
Prior to that she spent several years with Platou Architects, specializing in cruise ship design, and construction supervision on shipyards around the world. During that time, she also spearheaded construction of a 263-foot custom private yacht in Hamburg, Germany. Lena received her degree from London’s Chelsea School of Art and Design in 1984 and recently completed the Dale Carnegie Leadership Course.
Lena currently resides in Norway with her husband and their dog. She is an active philanthropist, serving on several not-for-profit boards, including Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Maryland Chapter.
